Abstract

Mranggen Subdistrict in Demak Regency is one of the peri-urban areas which is directly adjacent to Semarang City. The development of built-up land in Mranggen District can result in a decrease in the carrying capacity of the environment. This study aims to examine the carrying capacity of built-up land in Mranggen District, which is a peri-urban area in Demak Regency. The data used are land cover maps from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and World View-2 satellite imagery acquired in 2021, accessed from the World Imagery Wayback. Processing and analysis includes land cover mapping and calculation of the carrying capacity of the built up land. The results of the analysis show that the carrying capacity of the built up land in Mranggen District is 31.4% in 2015 and decreases to 32.2% in 2021, which means that the carrying capacity is at the optimum limit, where the built-up land has the highest increase from 2015 to 2021 of 59 .85 Ha or about 2.6%. This is due to limited land in the center of Semarang City so that the growth of built up land is very rapid in Mranggen District as a peri-urban area.
