Publication Ethics

Journal of Health Science (Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan), Universitas Wiraraja, is committed to upholding the standards of ethical publishing. This statement applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher, and follows the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Duties of authors

  • Submit original work that has not been published elsewhere and is not under review by another journal. Work and words of others must be properly cited.
  • Report data honestly. Fabrication, falsification, and selective reporting of data are not acceptable.
  • Include as authors only those who made a significant contribution to the study. All authors must approve the final manuscript and its submission.
  • Provide ethical clearance from a recognized ethics committee and informed consent from participants for research involving humans or human data. Research involving animals must follow animal welfare guidelines.
  • Disclose funding sources and any conflict of interest that could influence the results or their interpretation.
  • Notify the editor promptly if a significant error is found in the manuscript, whether before or after publication, and cooperate in issuing a correction or retraction.
  • Do not withdraw a submitted manuscript without compelling reasons, as set out in the journal's Withdrawal of Manuscript policy.

Duties of editors

  • Evaluate manuscripts on academic merit only, without discrimination based on the authors' gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, or institution.
  • Keep information about submitted manuscripts confidential, sharing it only with reviewers and the publisher as needed.
  • Disclose conflicts of interest and hand the manuscript to another editor when one exists.
  • Make sure that manuscripts go through a fair and timely peer review, as described in the Peer Review Process.
  • Take action on suspected misconduct and work with the Editorial Board to resolve it.

Duties of reviewers

  • Treat manuscripts as confidential documents and do not use their content for personal benefit.
  • Give objective, constructive comments, without personal criticism of the authors.
  • Decline to review if there is a conflict of interest or if the reviewer cannot complete the review on time.
  • Point out relevant published work that the authors have not cited, and report any substantial similarity to other work that comes to their attention.

Duties of the publisher

  • Support the independence of the editors' decisions.
  • Provide the facilities needed to run the journal, keep an archive of published issues, and make published articles available to readers.
  • Support the editors in handling complaints and cases of misconduct.

Plagiarism and duplicate publication

All manuscripts are checked for similarity using plagiarism-detection software during initial screening. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate submission, and redundant publication are treated as serious misconduct. Manuscripts found to contain them will be rejected.

Handling of misconduct

  1. Anyone may report suspected misconduct to the Editor-in-Chief, with supporting evidence.
  2. The Editorial Board reviews the report confidentially and asks the authors to respond.
  3. If misconduct is confirmed, the journal may reject the manuscript, publish a correction or retraction notice, and inform the authors' institution.
  4. Authors found to have committed serious misconduct may be barred from submitting to the journal for a period determined by the Editorial Board.

Corrections and retractions

When a published article contains an error, the journal publishes a correction. When an article has serious errors, ethical violations, or is found to be plagiarized or fabricated, the journal retracts it. A retraction notice states the reason, and the original article remains accessible and is marked as retracted.
