Abstract

Half of Indonesia's population are women so that women's participation will affect economic growth. Economic growth in East Java is higher than the national economic growth. Individual national economic development can be seen from the employment and working hours. From SUSENAS East Java in 2009, women were more likely to work in the non-agricultural sector with the normal working hours (35 hours or more per week). With logistic regression analysis, employment and hours worked is the dependent variable and seven independent variables such as age, education level, household status, area of residence, marital status, willingness to work, and membership status in the household. Independent variables, which significantly affect employment and hours worked were  age, educational level, household status, area of residence, and marital status.
